What gets checked during an MOT

The test covers the parts of your car that affect safety and emissions rather than general wear and tear. Our testers look at:

• Brakes, including pedal feel and effectiveness
• Tyres, wheels, and steering
• Lights, indicators, and reflectors
• Seatbelts and seats
• Exhaust emissions and the condition of the exhaust system
• Bodywork, structure, and the condition of the fuel system
• Windscreen, wipers, and washers

Anything that falls below the legal standard will show up as a fault, and depending on severity, this will be recorded as a minor, major, or dangerous defect.

When your car needs testing

Most cars need their first MOT three years after registration, then annually after that. If you’re not sure when yours is due, we can check this for you before booking, so you’re not caught out with an expired certificate.

What happens if your car fails

A failed MOT isn’t the end of the road. We’ll talk you through exactly what’s failed and why, along with a clear price for putting it right. Because we carry out the repair work ourselves in the same workshop, most retests can be arranged quickly rather than sending your car elsewhere and starting again.

If the fault is minor, your car may still be legal to drive away and bring back once parts are available. If it’s a dangerous defect, we’ll explain why driving isn’t advisable until it’s fixed.

Booked Mot and service, albeit my car failed the Mot, they gave me advice, quoted, price, which in my opinion was reasonable, agreed the work and they carried out the repairs on the day, could not fault the service, and they are nice people.

Professional old fashioned service, with a smile. Easy to deal with and quick turn-a-round of my car which was Serviced and MoT'd. Phoned on time to say it was ready for pick-up, which I had not found with my old garage, and had always had to phone them. Will certainly recommend and use again with no qualms.
