Motorhome MOT – Moordown, Bournemouth

Motorhomes have their own MOT requirements, and not every garage is equipped to test them. At FitnFix Auto, we test motorhomes within class 7, using dedicated MOT bays suited to larger vehicles.

What’s different about a motorhome MOT

While many of the checks are similar to a standard car MOT, motorhomes are assessed against class 7 standards, which account for their size and weight. This includes closer attention to:

• Brakes suited to the vehicle’s weight
• Suspension and structural condition
• Tyres rated for the vehicle’s load
• Lighting and visibility, given the vehicle’s dimensions

Size limitations

We can test most motorhomes that fall within class 7, but very large motorhomes may not fit within our bays. If you’re not sure whether yours qualifies, it’s worth checking with us before booking to avoid disappointment.

When your motorhome needs testing

Like cars, most motorhomes need their first MOT three years after registration, then annually after that. Given how much motorhomes vary in usage, from regular trips to long periods stored between seasons, it’s worth checking your due date rather than assuming based on mileage alone.

What happens if it fails

If your motorhome fails its MOT, we’ll explain what’s needed and, where the fault falls within our capabilities, carry out the repair ourselves rather than sending you elsewhere.

Booking ahead

Motorhome MOTs often take a little longer than a standard car test, so it’s worth booking with some notice, particularly ahead of a planned trip.

Booked Mot and service, albeit my car failed the Mot, they gave me advice, quoted, price, which in my opinion was reasonable, agreed the work and they carried out the repairs on the day, could not fault the service, and they are nice people.

Professional old fashioned service, with a smile. Easy to deal with and quick turn-a-round of my car which was Serviced and MoT'd. Phoned on time to say it was ready for pick-up, which I had not found with my old garage, and had always had to phone them. Will certainly recommend and use again with no qualms. My thanks to all involved at the garage.
